Stop Work Authority CardDuring National Safety Month, Nexus Water Group introduced the recently merged company’s Stop Work Authority Program where every employee has the ability, and responsibility, to stop perceived or actual unsafe work.

Richard Rich, Chief Operating Officer for Nexus Water Group, said, “There is nothing more important than keeping our team members safe. At times, this means we must speak up and stop work. Having a tangible item like a Stop Work Authority card can help make stopping work easier.”

Nexus Water Group’s Stop Work Authority card is a wallet-size card that includes clear and straightforward steps for stopping work:

Stop Work. Be polite, firm and clear.
Notify.  Inform supervisor and anyone in the area. Make the area safe.
Correct. The right person should take corrective action and inspect.
Resume. Reopen work only when safe.

According to Rich, when a safety concern is raised, it will be addressed immediately and thoroughly. Work will not resume until the issue is resolved and it is safe to do so.

He said, “If an employee identifies unsafe actions, unsafe work conditions, or if they’re unsure, then they should use their Stop Work Authority. There will never be any disciplinary action for using Stop Work Authority.”

He added, “Each stop work instance is an opportunity to learn and improve our safety practices, so we will analyze these events to prevent future occurrences.”

Stop Work Authority is a key part of Nexus Water Group’s safety culture. It demonstrates a commitment to ensure a safe work environment for everyone. Everyone is responsible for not only their safety but also the safety of their coworkers and customers.
